Sustainability Lead
We’re looking for a Sustainability Lead to help steer the next phase of Abergeldie’s sustainability journey!
About Us
Abergeldie is a majority locally owned contractor with 30 years’ industry experience in Australia and New Zealand. We design and deliver projects in the Water, Bridges, Transport, Underground, Energy and Remediation industry sectors. Projects include dams, bridges, tunnels, water and wastewater treatment process facilities, rail infrastructure, mining infrastructure, electrical substations, marine works and pipeline rehabilitation: the complex infrastructure needed to build better communities.
About the Opportunity
We’re looking for a Sustainability Lead to help steer the next phase of Abergeldie’s sustainability journey, as we continue working towards our goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2035.
Reporting to the General Manager – Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability, this role will lead the coordination, reporting and implementation of Abergeldie’s sustainability strategy across the business. You’ll have touchpoints across all facets of Abergeldie, from operations/delivery and pre-contracts to corporate functions such as Finance, Procurement and HR – helping embed sustainability into decision-making and everyday practice.
The role also involves engaging externally to strengthen Abergeldie’s sustainability performance and partnerships, fostering alignment with broader industry standards and emerging best practice.
This is a hands-on, visible position for someone who takes a proactive approach, influences at all levels and turns sustainability strategy into meaningful, practical outcomes.
What You’ll Bring to the Team
- A tertiary qualification in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline (postgraduate studies in sustainability or ESG are highly regarded).
- 5 - 7 years’ experience in sustainability or applicable environmental roles within construction or civil infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of sustainability frameworks and reporting tools (i.e. IS Rating Scheme and GHG Protocol). Awareness of frameworks such as TCFD or GRI is advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience preparing sustainability or ESG reporting.
- The ability to engage confidently with internal and external stakeholders to influence decisions and foster collaboration.
- A practical mindset, turning strategy into action, helping others understand what sustainability means across project and corporate operations.
